The Barber of Seville- Extension

January 23rd & 30th @ 3pm January 24th & 31st @ 7pm

The Opera Extension Proves the Barber of Seville Can Cut Through a Modern Audience

There were moments of doubts and anxiety while The Bleecker Street Opera prepared to put up the timeless classic The Barber of Seville. As heads were coming together and filling the 45 Bleecker space with ideas of how to bring The Barber to life, the main focus was to simply make it happen. Therefore, those of us involved in this production can honestly proclaim a triumph, not only because The Barber of Seville opened and had a successful run, but because the Barber has been extended.
New York City is full of wonderful and new Theatre shows. 45 Bleecker is no stranger to the variety of of artist and productions in the city. However, an Opera of this caliber at an OffBroadway Theatre is indeed a rare gem and I must stress that this Opera has come together because of the hard work of all the creative people that are part of The Barber of Seville. It is a miracle that this production extended, mainly due to all call that we received asking us to do so. Now all we need is to get the word out and bring an audience to come and enjoy the show.
Please Help support the Arts!! Extension Dates: January 23rd & 30Th @ 3pm January 24Th & 31st @ 7pm
"The Barber of Seville, or The Useless Precaution (Il barbiere di Siviglia, ossia L'inutile precauzione) is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto (based on Pierre Beaumarchais's comedy Le Barbier de Séville) by Cesare Sterbini. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais's comedy Le Barbier de Séville (1775), which was originally an opéra comique, or a mixture of spoken play with music. Rossini’s Barber has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music. Rossini’s masterpiece has been described as the opera buffa of all opere buffe; even after two hundred years, its popularity on the modern opera stage attest to that greatness."
