The Common Air

Connections, communication, cooperation and Common Air, indeed link us all. More so the six characters in this play, brilliantly portrayed by Alex Lyras. When each person in The Common Air relates their story we are able to see how small the world is when it comes to personal trials. Though life takes us in different paths more often than not our paths cross. The play takes place in a NY airport where traffic and action hit peak from day to day. Unfortunately on this specific day there is a major delay for reasons unknown leaving the protagonists idle in the Airport with plenty of time to tell their tales. The Common Air draws a lot of its content from current events in turn making it informative as much as it is emotional. The first character we meet it's a NYC Cabbie, the second a Gallery Owner, the third an Attorney, the Fourth a Hipster DJ, the fifth is a University Professor and the sixth is an Iraqi-American that ties the story as he talks to the NYC Cabbie we first got to know in the beginning of the show. Apart from being a show superbly acted and directed its philosophy and message are quite relevant. The Common Air brings us together in the most uncommon of circumstances highlighting all the more that our differences and lives are not as far from each other as we sometimes believe.
